TWO FREE Taster Sessions!
We are holding not one, but TWO FREE TASTER SESSIONS! They are open to anybody who wants to try out Taekwondo. Members of the exec will meet up with new students at the piazza prior to the sessions. If you cannot make this, please go straight to the appropriate venue. Please bring some loose-fitting clothing such as a t-shirt and shorts/trousers to allow for freedom of movement. After training, we will head to one of the campus pubs to wind down, relax and chat over a drink or meal, while making new friends at the same time!
Sunday 7th Oct (Week 1) at Westwood Games Hall
Meet at the piazza at 10:30am. Training is from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
Tuesday 9th Oct (Week 2) at Westwood Dance Studio
Meet at the piazza at 6:30pm. Training is from 7:00pm to 9:30pm.
The Martial Art
Although Taekwon-do can trace its roots back to early Korean martial arts, these were gathered under the name Taekwon-do in the 1950s to become the Korean military's combat system.
Today there are two major bodies that govern Taekwon-do, with the ITF (International Taekwon-do Federation) continuing the traditional aspects of the martial art, whilst the WTF (World Taekwon-do Federation) has honed Taekwon-do into the competition sport style that can be seen in the Olympics.
Here at Warwick we have people from all varieties of clubs and the lessons incorporate aspects from both branches. We welcome any suggestions for training exercises and believe even black belts can learn new things from varied training.
As a result, the training at Warwick provides not only an effective form of self-defence but also offers the fitness and sense of achievement of competitive sport.
The Club
Training is friendly and relaxed; it is as much a place to meet new people and make friends as it is to keep fit and learn self-defence. We have a dedicated session for beginners (check the class times for details), although you will soon find yourself staying on for the more advanced sessions.
With the focus on getting fit, rather than being fit, no matter what your level we can help you along. With fitness sessions as an optional 3rd class each week (plus training is cheaper than a gym membership) along with the opportunity to grade every term and compete in tournaments, there are plenty of chances to show off your new skills and measure your personal progress.
From weekly meals and casual drinks to days out (paintballing or go-karting) and tour the club has a really varied social schedule, so you can spend time with friends whatever your tastes.
Finally the first two sessions of term (Taster sessions) are FREE! So you have nothing to lose.
