Canoe polo is one of those sports which is not very well known and whenever someone says that they play this brilliant pool-based game, they tend to think that the highlight of the sport is pottering about in a boat for 2 1/2 hours or that we're somehow drowning horses whilst trying to knock a sinking ball around with a mallet. Well, think again!!
Explanation
Canoe polo is a high tempo, wet n' wild, have a laugh with some new mates kind of sport which mixes canoeing skills with competitive sporting rules. It's kinda difficult to describe on paper so, after much thought and attempts, we've decided not to even try. The rules are loosely similar to basketball and if you want to come and have a go then all you need is a swimming costume and towel to have a go. Alternatively you could come and watch us play a few games first in our awesome, huge, state of the art, like none you've ever seen ... wait for it ... VIEWING GALLERY!! Now you have no excuses!!
Information
The sessions run from 7.15 til 9.30 on Tuesday evenings at the Main Sports Centre Pool. All you need to bring is a swimming costume and a towel and we will supply the rest. For those of you who start to like it, maybe we can mould you into a top class polo player with training and advice, and if you're lucky, then you could catch our very own ex-GB player who comes down from time to time with his tips and pointers! We usually end up in 'The Bar' (or Airport Bar, as the older members will usually refer to it) which is a great way to end the evening in a relaxed social, and it's also a great way to get to know the other members in the club!
Competition
On the competition side, we host two of our own Warwick tournaments and compete in the West Midlands league which runs throughout the year. But all of this is just training for the big one ... THE BUSA's!!! This is a great weekend of camping and polo where universities from all over the country come to play on a huge lake and is by far the best competition on the polo diary!!
Socials
When you become a member of the club, you will then be put on our mailing list which is where you will hear about all the funky stuff that is going to happen. It is also where our very own social sec will post information about the socials. Everyone is welcome to come along and it is a great way to meet and get to know your fellow members and exec. There is always a friendly atmosphere and if you're lucky, then you may even have cause to laugh at one or more of your exec making a fool of themselves!! That's about everything, so hopefully we'll see you on one of our sessions soon.
