Welcome to Classical and Modern Dance 2013/2014!

Classical and Modern Dance (CMD) is one of the largest sport clubs that the university has to offer with over 250 members, and growing fast! We are the ultimate club for whatever your passion within dance is. We offer 5 styles of dance, excelling in Ballet, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, and Contemporary as well as classes in Technique, Flexibilityand Pointe . CMD offers classes for guys and girls, right from beginner level up to advanced, so whether you’ve never danced before and want to join something new at University; or you’re an aspiring dancer wanting to further your technique and skill, CMD really is the club for you.
So what are we all about?!
*CMD is devoted to every single member and we make sure that we support inter-club involvement in every aspect of what we do!
*We have a club ethos of inclusion and really just want to bring as much enjoyment to everyone as possible so that means no discrimination due to ability!
*We are eager to cater for our beginner dancers. This means manageable beginner classes in every style we offer taught my our friendly teachers to give you a taste of dance and chance to learn choreography and even perform and compete
* We are also committed to our advanced dancers. We advanced classes that are more challenging for our members that really want to push themselves and improve their technique ready for the opportunity to compete at national and international competitions and shows.
We have an excellent track record in the past winning ‘Most Improved’ club for two years in a row, along with numerous prizes at national and international competitions. Success is important to the club, but so is participation which is why we truly welcome everyone regardless of previous experience. We pride ourselves on letting all members compete, perform in shows in the local community, and be part of charity projects throughout the year, should you wish to do so.
After all that hard work from dancing we, at CMD, are renowned for our epic socials - so come along and give them a go! We have notorious weekly socials every Wednesday (known as circle), as well as theatre trips, meals out, movie nights, weekends away and domestic and international TOURS! It’s no wonder that CMD will provide you with some of your best friends and best memories of your time at Warwick.
We look forward to seeing you at the start of term. Come along and chat to our Exec at the Sports Fair, drop us an email, or visit our Facebook page and website. We’d love to hear from you!

A taster of a typical CMD year!
Terms 1 and 2:
In Term 1 we have lots for you to get involved with! As well as attending our weekly classes, there is also the opportunity to compete in a dance competition at Royal Holloway University in London! During Term 1, CMD also presents 'Warwick Dance for Sport Relief' a big night where 11 different Warwick sports clubs get together and battle it out in aid of charity for the ultimate title of Sport Relief Dance Champions! This year, for the first time CMD held their very own dance showcase, where every CMD class got a chance to perform, including a solo/duet if you wished too. The show was held on campus in Warwick Arts Centre and attracted hundreds of spectators.
There is also lots that goes on in Term 2 for CMD! We not only take part in Pizazz, the biggest annual dance showcase, but compete at Sheffield University and Loughborough University, which hosts the biggest inter-University dance competition in the UK. This year CMD was very sucessful and placed 1st in Ballet at Sheffield and 3rd in the Wildcard category at Loughborough. CMD is also heavily involved with fundraising and hosts a charity week during Term 2 called 'Pink Week' which aims to raise money to help support breast cancer charities. This year CMD raised an incredible £2100 through various campaigns and activities across campus and Leamington Spa in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign.
During the Easter holidays, CMD took part in an international dance competition in Spain whilst on international tour, and came away winning 1st place in Advanced Lyrical.
