Welcome to the University of Warwick Men's Cricket Club.
We pride ourselves on being an extremely friendly club. Irrespective of playing ability all new members are welcome, even those who have never played before.
Come along and chat to us at Sports Fair and we can tell you everything you need to know about UWMCC! For new members we will give you a ‘buddy’ within the club, who will give you the lowdown on what is going on and any concerns you may have in the first few weeks of term.
UWMCC cater for all ranges of cricketing ability, we run four outdoor BUCS teams and a Friendly XI. That said, if you are a talented cricketer, our first XI play in the BUCS Premier Division and we have also been granted Focus Club status by Warwick Sport again for this year.
Cricket is no longer just a summer sport! We run four net sessions a week in terms one and two. We also enter the BUCS indoor league and enter teams into local indoor leagues too.The highlight of our playing calendar for the first two terms is our varsity fixture against Coventry. Last year we won 2-1!
The club hold weekly ‘circles’ on Wednesday evenings in PoP at the Student Union – a night not to be missed. We also frequent a curry house in Leamington Spa, renowned for its price competitiveness, for club meals. Our social secretary also has in the pipeline for the forthcoming year – a golf day, poker night, Edgbaston visit, and many more.
The highlight of our social year is the Cricket Ball. Previous speakers have included Robert Croft and Graeme Fowler. This year it will be held on Saturday 23rd November. Venue and Speaker TBA.
Yearly the club enters the gruelling Stratford Raceway half-marathon and over many years has donated money to the British Heart Foundation, hosting our first Blood Donation session last year, with plans for many more in the forthcoming years. We are in the 2nd year of our cricket coaching programme to encourage local primary school children to get involved in cricket. We are also in the process of forming a partnership with Cricket Without Boundaries, a great charity which combines cricket coaching and HIV/Aids awareness in deprived areas of the world.
UWMCC holds an international and domestic tour. This year we are looking to visit South Africa in the first two weeks of the Easter Holidays.
