In the Gliding Club we are pleased to offer one of the most exciting and adventurous activities available to members of the University of Warwick. Only a small percentage of people in the world are lucky enough to experience soaring in the clouds with the birds, even fewer get to experience it every weekend only a short drive from home. If you can imagine gliding smoothly down through wispy white clouds that look like fluffy balls of cotton wool, then emerging into brilliant sunlight with the most incredible view of the countryside you could ever dream of seeing.....then maybe gliding you should be in the gliding club!
We fly from two airfields, Husbands Bosworth and Snitterfield (Stratford-On-Avon). HusBos is one of the country's largest gliding centre, which means you get top facilities and instruction, all subsidised. A typical flight costs £10, affordable for even the poorest of pilots and if you've ever wanted to fly a powered plane then learning to glide first can also be the cheapest and most fun way to do it. Soar high above the countryside and learn to glide!
Once you've joined the club you will receive our emails with details about every trip we run and how to sign yourself up. We try to have one every weekend, especially over the first term.
We select the first that sign-up, or anyone who has never been with us before to come. We meet at Rootes Reception on campus and transport to the airfield is provided by us.
For everyone who has never been flying before, the day will typically consist of a couple of flights, each with an instuctor who flies the glider allowing you to experience soaring through the sky and then will allow you to take control and see what it's like to fly yourself.
While the club typically takes those new to gliding, we do have some more experienced members and welcome any seasoned professionals who want to come and show us how it's done; some of our members even have PPLs.
