Hi Everyone!
Welcome especially to the new freshers and any new members.. you are now HONORARY WARWICK RIDERS! :o) So thanks for joining our Riding Club.
Please check your emails regularly for important information about team training, lesson times and social events as well as any other vital information.
Team trials for the BUCS university team will take place in the first and second week of term 1. Make sure you bring your riding gear so you are able to try out. If you are thinking of trying out for the team you must be able to ride at least a prelim level dressage test and jump a course of 8 fences starting at 2’3” depending on what team you are picked for. If you are chosen for one of the teams we expect your upmost commitment to your training otherwise we will be forced to review your position on the team.
If you do not ride on the BUCS equestrian teams, to sign up for the weekly lessons all you have to do is scroll down this page to find the lesson you would like to sign up for (or click the driver link if you wish to drive to Radway!) and click 'Sign Up'. If it is your first time riding (this applies mostly to freshers but of course any new members are welcome) then make sure you send your name and contact number to Sally on s.biddlecombe@warwick.ac.uk.
Lessons run on Sundays; sign up opens a week before the lesson is due to run and closes Thursday 18:00 before the lesson for all levels. Once the sign up period is over Sally will send a confirmation email to those who will be riding.
Lessons are now £20.50 for NON-DRIVERS and £10 for DRIVERS, and must be paid 24 hours before you ride or you will lose your place. Lessons are extremely popular and will your place will be assigned to someone else immediately. If you have signed up and cannot ride please let the lesson co-ordinator know 36 hours before you are due to ride. If you do not do this the club reserves the right to charge you for this lesson.
Please remember lessons cannot run if there are no drivers so drivers always have priority.
Please make sure you sign up for the correct level at which you can ride. These are described below. If you are uncertain it is best to go for the level below.
Beginners level;
These lessons are for those who have never sat on a horse before or have only ever had a few lessons/havent been riding for very long. The aim of this group is to become competent in walk, trot and canter, establish balance and a good position.
Intermediate level;
These lessons are for those who have ridden for a while or those who used to ride, but have not ridden for several years. The aim of this group is to learn how to get a horse on the bit, introduce extended and collected paces, improve position and jump a small course of jumps (approximately 2’).
Advanced level;
These lessons are for those who are competent in walk, trot and canter, have some jumping experience and are comfortable schooling a horse with a little less guidance. The aim of this group is to achieve a better understanding of the horse’s way of going, learning basic lateral movements and being able to jump a course (approximately 2’6” - 3’).
YOU MUST DISCUSS YOUR PROGRESS WITH THE INSTRUCTOR BEFORE MOVING UP A LEVEL.
You can now pay for lessons online. All you need to do is click on the payment link below and enter your card details on the safe and secure Union website - the amount is £20.50 for NON-DRIVERS and £10 for DRIVERS. The link can also be found on our website. Please get in touch if you encounter problems with this payment system! You must pay before you ride.
