Adoptions
These are traditionally held in the first few weeks of term 1 to welcome the freshers. There are some guidelines to stick to so read the SU Adoptions Policy closely.
Here are some of the key points from the policy that you need to make sure that your clubs take on as their mantra when planning the events;
-
The members of the club exec are personally responsible for the safety of club members. This means that individuals or the whole exec can face Union disciplinary action should something go wrong.
-
No participant should feel under pressure (intended or not) to do anything that they may not enjoy.
-
Each individual must be free to choose whether or not they take part in the event. Non-attendance should not become a barrier to full participation in subsequent club activities.
-
Every club must submit a plan detailing the activities included in the event. This plan must include the names of at least 2 supervisors who are will take responsibility for ensuring the safety of the participants. It must also include details of the time, date and venue of the event. Please submit this at least one week before the adoption ceremony takes place.
Make sure you read the Adoptions Policy and return the slip at the end at least 7 days before you want the event to take place.
