Sports Volunteering

Make this the year that you get involved in the local community!  Whether you volunteer just once a year or once a week, through a sports team or as an individual, join an existing project or develop your own, every contribution makes a difference.  With 74 sports teams at Warwick the potential for positive change is immense.  Additionally, through our partnership with Millennium Volunteers which recognises your voluntary work you could receive a nationally recognized MV award.  Currently Warwick Volunteers offers the following opportunities for sports volunteering:

The Actionnaires Club- An activity clubs for visually impaired children and young people, their siblings and friends. They want to develop each child's self confidence, social interaction and their ability to develop a range of physical skills. Volunteers are needed to help out with the various sporting activities which could include swimming, archery, athletics, basketball, cricket, football, goalball, judo and martial arts.

CSW Sport- A sub regional agency consisting of a network of partners with the aim of developing sport for people throughout the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire area.  Volunteering opportunities range from coaching in schools and sports clubs, acting as umpires and referees to providing support at tournaments and one-off events.  For those that are not sport-inclined they also offer non-sports opportunities such web design and marketing and publicity.

Volunteering in schools- There are a variety of volunteering opportunities for both clubs and individuals interested in bringing sports to local schools.

Clubs in schools: Members of Union or University sports clubs can share their skills and enthusiasm for their sport with local schoolchildren in either a one-off session or longer-term courses.

Individuals in schools: Placements can be found for University staff or students who are interested in volunteering to support or teach sports. This may be in a specific sport or more general, depending upon the area of interest. Volunteers are particularly sought for ‘Shake and Wake,’ a daily exercise programme for local Primary Schools.

If none of those projects take your fancy why not initiate your own project?  Just pop into the office in Union North or contact us at volunteers@warwick.ac.uk or 024 7657 2763.
